How to get local friends?

Mann 23 . 26 Januar 2026

Spørsmål

I am in the need of advice or guiding questions. I have a fear of abandonment after trying to befriend numerous norgwegians over social apps. I'm not looking to date and such. What especially frustrates me is when people go on such apps for socializing and proceed to ghost, not reply or only reply when you reach out and never return the favor. This mostly concerns Norwegians and their culture. It is also true that the app I use is for nerdy people. They also tend to visit places with more people and that just feels like an extra layer on top of everything else... I understand that they do not need to talk to me but this is an ongoing experience. I have had success befriending 2/20 ppl. Besides, I really want local friends, not someone from the USA or Spain or whatever with who I can talk only over pc. I need someone warmer - BFF material.

Hey

It sounds like you're really tired of trying to find friends via apps
and other online services.
You write that you want local friends and
I assume you mean friends you can also meet in person.

Many friendships are based on sharing common interests, values and the
opportunity to meet in person. Another important factor when
establishing friendships is that you set aside time,
perhaps especially in the beginning.

A good way to start looking for
friends can be to join an activity or an association where you can
meet others who are interested in the same things as you.
It's good if this activity has regular physical meeting points so
that there isn't too much time between each time you meet.

Getting involved in volunteer work can also be a great way to get
to know others. Student associations often have opportunities for this.

If you have difficulty finding these associations, you can contact your
Student welfare organisation and ask for advice and guidance there
your Student welfare organisation.
I wish you good luck!
