Can I have therapy sessions on issues regarding self judgment?

Spørsmål

Hello, I would like to have therapy sessions on issues such as: -problems working in a team in a research. Maybe I have a too complex way of thinking and working on projects. Currently, I am in a team of five people and the other four don’t do anything in the research and leave me alone. I feel so frustrated. What will they get the grade for? -Problems being vulnerable and asking for and accepting other people’s help. -self-judgement. I want to become less self-judgmental and less biased on the first interactions with people. - of course, childhood traumas are involved:)

Hei

Being a part of a research team can be challenging if you’re the one doing most of the work. It can feel unfair, and some people find it difficult to speak up and set boundaries. To answer your question; yes you are welcome to seek guidance from our counselors on these issues.

Self compassion

You say you want to become less self judgemental and less biased on the first interactions with people. A good way to start is by being kinder to yourself, in other words being more selfcompassioned. With self-compassion we give ourselves the same kindness and care we would give to a good friend. There are online resources for self-help, including self-compassion and assertiveness that I recommend.

Working on being less biased in the first interactions with people can involve:

  • Being aware that you tend to be biased
  • Try to notice positive things about the other person
  • Look at differences between people with curiousness

There is also a podcast I would recommend, it's called The science of self-compassion, episode "a slight change of plans", with Maya Shankar and Kristin Neff.
