Where can I get prescription medicine as an exchange student in Oslo?

Spørsmål

I am going to study as an exchange student at the University of Oslo from August this year. I suffer from severe abdominal pain and headaches during menstruation and have been taking Dienogest for many years. I am now worried if I can get some medicine like that in Norway. After researching, I know that Visanne is an alternative to Dienogest. How can international students obtain this medicine in Oslo?

Hei

It is very good that you are asking about this before your journey. Many foreign students who are on permanent treatment are probably wondering about this same thing. If the exchange period is short, for example 6 months, then it may be just as well to bring enough medicine from your home country for the entire stay. As a rule, the doctor in your home country will then be able to write a certificate so you don't get into trouble at customs. But if the exchange stay is longer, foreign students can contact the health service in SIO (Student Samskipnaden i Oslo) for an appointment with our GPs. Dienogest is an available medicine in Norway that you can get on prescription from a doctor.

Welcome to Norway!
