Spørsmål
Hei! I am an international student staying here in Oslo for 2 years. I wanted to ask how I can book an appointment with an gynaecologist. I had a vaginal yeast infection some time ago and received some creme from my doctor in my home country back then. Now the symptoms reoccured and I am looking for some treatment. I hope you can help me with where I have to go or whom I should contact. Thank you in advance!
Thank you for reaching out. Velkommen til Oslo! I understand your concern, and I’m happy to guide you in the right direction.
Your symptoms may well be due to a vaginal yeast infection, which is a common condition caused by an overgrowth of Candida fungus. Typical symptoms include itching, burning, redness, and abnormal discharge.
Treatment Options
Mild yeast infections can often be treated with over-the-counter antifungal medication: Canesten, which is a combination treatment with both cream and vaginal suppository (vagitorie). This is available at the pharmacies (apotek). This treatment typically helps relieve symptoms within a few days.
When to See a Doctor
If your symptoms persist despite treatment or worsen, I recommend seeking medical attention. In Norway, general practitioners (fastleger) manage most gynecological conditions and can refer you to a gynecologist if needed.
-
If you have a fastlege: You can contact your GP directly to book an appointment. You can find information about your fastlege and schedule a visit via Helsenorge.
-
If you do not have a fastlege: As an international student in Oslo, you can reach out to SiO Helse, which offers medical services for students, including gynecological consultations with a GP.
I hope this information helps.
Vennlig hilsen
Fastlegen
