Recurrent painful blisters on the genitals can have several possible causes, but the most common would be genital herpes, which is a viral infection that stays in the body and can flare up from time to time. Typical features include:

  • Clusters of small, painful blisters or sores
  • They burst and then heal over days to weeks
  • Symptoms can be triggered by factors like heat, friction, stress, or illness

Other possible causes could be diseases og other infections, but based on the pattern you describe, herpes is something that should be considered.

You should see your general practitioner (GP) - Fastlege - at a time when there are active blister. They can examine the area and take a swab test to confirm the diagnosis.

Even though herpes cannot be removed from the body, there are good treatments available—both to shorten outbreaks and to prevent them if they occur frequently.
