Do I need help from a psychologist?

Hello, I think I might need help from a psychologist. I feel physically and emotionally exhausted recently: I feel lonely, trust issues are popping up, cannot concentrate on simple tasks, can't do very easy postures on yoga anymore (I was doing a good job before, but now I'm drained and my hands start to heart and shake in the middle of the exercise. And yoga classes do not help with the mood anymore, - up until now yoga was my go-to place to find peace and recharge). This time it has been like that for just around a week, but this kind of depression-like state pops up repetitively, - at least one week every month, could be even more often. But now I feel like it's the worst, my normal approaches do not have positive effects anymore. I don't see it's getting any better soon, and I don't know what to do. I think my dog's death this Saturday back in my country had the strongest impact on me as well, even though I tried not to think about it too much, but I don't think that's all behindit

Hi

It sounds like you have had a hard time lately and that your normal coping strategies unfortunately don't work as they used to, perhaps because you now have more to cope with than before. I think help from a psychologist might benefit you. That said, it is not necessarily only a psychologist that might be helpful to you. Your present state could be transient and related to a time with more than normal amount of stressors, including the loss of your dog, exams and other stressful parts of your studies and life. Your state might heal "by itself" when your life situation gets more normal. I also think that a friend or professionals other than psychologists, e.g. a counselor, medical doctor or physical therapist, might be of help to you. It's hard to tell exacly the level and type of help you need without knowing more about your life and current life situation.

I suggest you contact your GP / fastlege or book an appointment for an initial assessment to get help deciding what you might need to feel better. Check out your student health service for more information.

Best regards
