Can I get tested for STIs even if we used a condom?

Kvinne 25 . 13 April 2026

Spørsmål

Hi, I had sex with strangers multiple times in Norway, but protected sex. I used to have a symptom of UTI but it was tested negatively. Is it possible to take STI/STD test even though I had protected sex? Just to make sure that I am clean.

Hei

Yes, you can absolutely get tested. It’s very normal to want to be sure, and I think that’s a good idea.

Even though you used condoms, the risk is low, but not zero. So it’s completely okay to double-check, even if you don’t have clear symptoms.

What you describe as UTI-like symptoms with a negative test can be different things. Sometimes STIs can feel similar, or it could just be irritation that goes away on its own. But you can’t really know without testing.

Getting an STI test can give clarity and reassurance. You can ask for a full check when you go.

You’ve done a lot right by using protection. This is just about taking care of yourself, not that you’ve done anything wrong.
